The WF01TR project began with the goal of developing a racing wheelchair for the Paralympic Games. As the design progressed, the team realized the crucial role of a perfect fit for the athlete. Through testing and data analysis, the team was able to understand experienced athletes' needs better and improve the wheelchair's development.
The WF01TR is not just another racing wheelchair. It's a design developed and crafted to maximize the athlete's abilities and improve competitive performance. The design, focusing on short-distance events, is ultra-lightweight, high-rigidity, and high acceleration, improving body hold and stability when cornering. The seat position is determined by the seat position simulator SS01, optimizing the rowing of the players, and the manufacture is done order made.
The wheelchair's unique properties lie in its CFRP Monocoque Frame, contributing to its lightweight and rigid structure. With dimensions of Width 650 mm x Depth 2100 mm x Height 700 mm, the design is compact yet powerful. The design incorporates 3D scanned body shapes applied to the seat to enhance the sense of unity between the wheelchair and the athlete, ensuring stable and high cornering performance without disrupting the athlete's concentration during competition.
The project, which started in August 2017 in Japan and finished in September 2019, involved a team of experts from various fields. The team included RDS Co., Ltd., Tomoya Ito, fuRo, exiii design Inc., MAGNET Inc., makesense Inc., quod, LLC, honey l days, and 1-10,Inc. The team faced challenges in adapting to the seat positions set for each athlete using the simulator, achieving the rigidity and strength of a high-performance wheelchair, and giving it a sleek styling while achieving a high level of productivity.
The WF01TR is not just a design; it's a revolution in the world of Paralympic sports. It's a testament to the power of design, technology, and a deep understanding of the athlete's needs. The design was awarded Golden in A' Vehicle, Mobility and Transportation Design Award in 2020, a prestigious accolade granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom.
